Let thrift stores lead the way...

Yeah, you read that right but let me explain. A few blog posts back I mentioned that we typically don’t like to have too much of an agenda when traveling. We find that when you “wing it” you tend to find more adventures along the way. On this trip Andee said she wanted to check out a thrift store or two, if they were around. We thought there would be simply because Amsterdam had quite a few. So when we arrived I asked Ol’ google maps if it knew of any second hand stores in Stockholm. Yep, Google found a few, 13 to be exact! These 13 stores were scattered throughout the city but yet all in walking distance which was perfect for us. It got us to walk, walk, walk, and walk some more. All that walking led to seeing so many beautiful buildings, parks, pubs, restaurants, and people. It was absolutely perfect. We also found some really sweet thrift finds so packing will be a little tighter. 😬

Below is a map of all the stores that we visited in Stockholm. They are the green flags. The two that we liked the most in #Stockholm was Beyond Retro and Emmaus. These two are shown as hearts on the map.

We even traveled north to Uppsala, Sweden's 4th largest city and found 8 second hand stores!! We had heard through friends that Uppsala was beautiful and we should make the day trip up there (approx 1 hour north by train) so we did. It was beautiful as it had an Amsterdam vibe going on. Again, we knew nothing about this place so we just started following the map and came across a killer Myrorna second hand store. Myrorna’s are kind of a chain as there’s a couple in Stockholm. From there we walked about a mile to another store called Stadsmission (also another chain and we didn’t like it). After that long distance we really felt all the walking we had done in Stockholm. Our feet were screaming at us! Since these stores were so spread out we were over it, wanted food and wanted to get back to Stockholm. So that’s what we did. Regardless of our tired feet, it was fun and we got to see a lot of Upsalla in the 4 hours we were there. Here‘s a map of all the stores we found there; (Myrorna flagged as the heart, everything else green):

I’m not saying Thrifting is the best approach for your adventure but if you enjoy the hobby as much as we do then this approach in a city like Stockholm leads to a rather adventurous one!

Happy thrift-xploring!
